Tall Timber Guide Tom Caron

Entering his seventeenth season of guiding for upland birds, Tom has hunted grouse and woodcock in northern New Hampshire and the North East Kingdom of Vermont for over thirty years. Having been introduced to upland bird hunting and gun dogs as a teenager, his appreciation of well trained dogs, the unmatched beauty of the grouse woods, and a healthy respect for grouse and woodcock have only grown over the years.

Tom is a licensed N.H. Hunting Guide, past President and the current Secretary of the N.H. Guides' Association.

The Dogs

The "backbone" of any successful hunting partnership is a good hunting dog, or two, or more. A well trained and biddable dog is not only a pleasure to hunt with, but a great companion at home. I have been very fortunate to have had great dogs to share my home with as well as roam the grouse woods. Each one has a different style, yet they all seem to get the job done in their own way.

Bode has developed in to a solid hunter in his ten seasons of grouse hunting, and his daughters Rosie and Millie (each seven years old) are energetic hunters of grouse and woodcock as well. This year, we were joined by Rosie's pups from her springtime litter, Bella and Rocky. They both show great promise and will be important parts of our operation in the years to come. Thirteen-year old Monty was a spectacular performer in the grouse woods over the years but is now enjoying his well deserved retirement.

All of the dogs are eager to get out there this fall.

In Memoriam

Greta and Rudy were both mainstays of the guiding operation in the early years. Both were steady performers and assisted in taking their share of grouse and woodcock for my clients. While they have both gone on to the happy hunting ground, memories of them running through the grouse woods will never be forgotten.
