NH Grouse Hunting Update: 10/18
I will preface this next post with the fact that I am a dedicated “pointing dog grouse hunter”, simply meaning that I am most comfortable with the pace and tendencies that pointing dogs display while in the woods. A point is still a mystery to me and probably always will be - the anticipation of which is almost as good as the resulting flush for me.

NH Grouse Hunting Update: 10/15
A pretty good week of bird hunting this week, especially after the temps became more “seasonal”. It was still a bit on the “too warm for grouse hunting side”, but when you see those sad, plaintive eyes of man’s best friend and realize just how short the season is, you end up grabbing your gun and strapping on your boots anyway.

NH Grouse Hunting Update: 10/10

NH Grouse Hunting Update: 10/4

Monty Passed!
Test Day has come and gone, and Monty proved himself very well at the N.A.V.H.D.A. Natural Ability test. For not having seen a quail or chukar partridge before, he pointed them quite easily during the field exercise and completed his water retrieves without too much effort.

Monty continues to get ready for grouse season
2011 Spring Report
So far it’s been a wetter spring than we had last year, but it seems as though we have quite a few grouse that it made it through our winter. We had lots of snow for snow roosting, which may have made a big difference for the birds in making it through ok. Lots of birds have been sighted along the logging roads and I heard quite a few males drumming while turkey hunting over the last few weeks.

Thanksgiving Grouse ??
While it was very cold when we started (15 degrees), there was some sun, very little snow on the ground, and no wind, making it actually pretty enjoyable out there, especially once the circulation returned to my fingers (it took an hour for that to happen).
