Bode pointing a woodcock
Season Prediction
That's Bode yesterday morning, deep in some thick cover, on point. Thankfully, it was a woodcock that he was on, one that let me walk right past it, the way woodcock sometimes do. When I released him from his point, he sprinted right to where the bird would take off from, and hopefully that bird will be around for us to chase in a month or so.

Vermont Grouse Hunting Update: 10/31
That's Bode, with a hard earned Vermont ruffed grouse that we took today. Lots of miles, quite a few birds flushed, a couple of errant shots, and finally this one fell on the second shot from my 28 gauge. How has the hunting been in our limited explorations of some of our Vermont coverts?

One More Week

Bode points a very tired woodcock
The woodcock are here ... for now
That's our Bode, with yet another woodcock that he pointed yesterday. We had our best day in a while yesterday, as we hunted mostly lower elevation cover in Pittsburg, NH again, trying to stay out of the snow that is plaguing the upland higher elevation coverts that we usually hunt.

March Scouting
Usually, our spring scouting in the north country takes place in April - by then, the snows of winter have mostly melted, enough for the dogs and I to get around the grouse woods without too much trouble. Well, spring came early this year (it seemed as though winter never really came), making for an extra couple of weeks of work for the dogs and escaping the winter doldrums for me.
