One More Week
The grouse hunting season opener in New Hampshire is merely seven days away now, while Vermont is only five days away. Needless to say, the dogs are excited to get out there for the real thing - enough of the "dress rehearsal" stuff that they've had to endure for the last couple of months. The temperatures this weekend have certainly helped too - lows were in the 30's and highs in the 50's - pretty good for this time of year and hopefully it continues right in to October.
While our scouting for new coverts is winding down a bit (a couple more sessions this week will be the conclusion), we will be out actually hunting in Vermont this weekend, and then the fun starts in New Hampshire. Numbers look good for this year for the most part - we encountered four grouse and two woodcock in two hours of scouting this morning. We will hope that it remains the same or better once the bullets start flying.
