NH Grouse Hunting Update: 10/4
So the first few days of grouse and woodcock hunting are in the book, and in one word it’s been WET. We have a low pressure system that seems to want to stay around us over the last few days, so it’s been a challenge for man and dog alike.

Fall foliage in northern NH
Grouse Scouting Update: 9/24
Beautiful day out there today - the leaves are changing as you read this, insuring some brilliant outings in the days ahead. Not much leaf drop yet, so we’re hearing the grouse as they escape, and rarely viewing them in the act. Still seeing broods now and then, so the fall dispersal is still probably a couple weeks away.

Rudy on point in Vermont
Land Of Plenty
That’s Rudy pointing a grouse from earlier this week - they’re already starting to run too, as we caught up with this one about 40 yards down a hill from us. We’ve been out for scouting sessions several mornings this week, before the coolness burns off and it starts feeling like summer again. Temps are okay until about 10 A.M., then starts heating rapidly after that.

Spring Training

Greta on point
Old Dogs & Old Tricks
Even though Greta’s getting up there in age (9 1/2 years) and doesn’t move around the way she once used to, she still has a pretty good nose for grouse.

One of the "Good Years"
Every grouse season seems pretty good to me, but there’s some that have burned their images in to my memory permanently.

VT Grouse Hunting Update: 10/31
Good thing Paul only comes up once a year ... because I would need to find a lot more coverts to take people to if he was up here any longer. His shooting was “on” this weekend, to say the least, as he harvested 6 grouse and 2 woodcock out of the 52 birds we moved in two and one half days of hunting together.
