Ruffed grouse hunting in northern Vermont
Season In Review
It was an interesting, and satisfying, season for my pack in the grouse woods this year compared to last year and there were a number of reasons for it. With my guiding dates now in the rearview mirror, I'll take a deep dive in to the numbers from our excursions this fall and seek to justify, or make excuses for, our successes and failures in the grouse woods ...

VT Upland Bird Hunting Update: 11/9
Our guiding season finally concluded this week, with a couple of mornings spent in New Hampshire, as well as the last two days in Vermont. The woodcock migration is undoubtedly winding down in the north country, and we now pursue the "King of Gamebirds", the survivors of the last five weeks, exclusively.

VT Upland Bird Hunting Update: 11/4
I'm not sure there are any explanations for how our last few days of upland bird hunting have been in New Hampshire and Vermont. VT Upland Bird Hunting Update: 10/20
That's my client Ed yesterday morning, roaming the Vermont grouse woods in an attempt to keep up with Millie. Finally, a grouse making it in to the vest pouch, courtesy of my client Gil today. We had an eventful last two days in the grouse woods, with a lot of birds contacted, and consequently, a lot of shots fired. The action was hot and heavy, as we contacted approximately 60 birds in our time out there.

Vermont Opener
The first few days of the Vermont grouse and woodcock season is in the books, and it's been a good start for my pack and I. The dogs have all worked with plenty of controlled energy, and more importantly, each canine has been rewarded for its efforts, as Daniel and Joseph had some success for their first time each out in the grouse woods.
