One of the benefits of an early spring is the ability to get out there and run your dogs prior to the nesting season for grouse and woodcock. Greta, Rudy and I have gotten out a few times to not only work on our games and get some exercise, but also to see just how things may shape up for the coming season.

VT Grouse Hunting Update: 11/6
Coming along for the ride out this time were Dean and Paul, repeat customers from my 2008 season. Now, last year we had what I would call a "Bataan death march" of a grouse hunt - we only put up a mere 10 grouse in two days last year - numbers that just don't add up if you've been a frequent visitor to this page. It was very tough and I felt sorry for the guys.

NH Grouse Hunting Update: 10/31
Late October is great for hunting grouse. Not only are the temperatures nice and cool, great for exerting yourself nearly to cardiac arrest in the woods, but there are no leaves blocking us from actually seeing the objects of our desires. The good hunting continued with Harry, Matt and Pete, a father and two sons that have lots of upland hunting experience.

NH Grouse Hunting Update: 10/27
What a hunt this turned out to be! Tom from Nova Scotia wanted to take his twelve year old son Cam on his first grouse hunt. We were also accompanied by Tom's wife Leslie and springer spaniel Winnie and things couldn't have worked out better, at least on the first day.
