It's Almost Time!
Well, in case you hadn't noticed from the image, we are going to soon be embarking on the great journey that is whelping a litter of German Shorthaired Pointer puppies, courtesy of Rosie. We're in the "stretch drive" of Rosie's pregnancy, and the big day is going to happen in 7 - 10 days from now. Books, videos, and well-meaning advice are what I've been absorbing lately, all in an effort to make sure this whole process goes as smoothly as possible.
As many of my clients will attest, breeding Rosie and seeing her pups in action has been a goal of mine for a few years now, as she is one of the best grouse hunters that I've had. She's truly a pleasure to hunt with, and seemed to pick it up pretty fast that first year or two. Now at six years old, she's had several great grouse seasons under her belt and I can't wait to see how her pups do. My plan is to keep one of the pups to join our guiding operation, and to place the others in suitable "hunting" homes.
The sire, "Deke", is an accomplished hunter himself, and has tested extensively in the German (DK) system and in NAVHDA as well, having attained a Prize 2 in the Utility Test. Out of Dave Trahan's On Point Kennels, Deke is one of the best trained dogs I've been around and his cooperative nature should complement Rosie's drive in the woods.
We look forward to seeing what the future holds with this group, and they'll be headed home in late May / early June to make great companions at their new homes. For more information on this litter, please check out this link and contact us.
